Task
Use the information provided in Resource A to prepare a report for the manager of Downer Construction recommending how they should allocate staff to supervise the building of the new shopping mall.
The report should include:
- a network diagram showing the tasks , the critical path and the minimum length of time required to complete the project
- the start and finish time for each task
- the allocation of tasks to a minimum number of supervisors, given that each supervisor will only supervise one task at a time
- a recommendation of a week when the manager can visit the site and see as many different tasks in action as possible
- a discussion about the impact on the project if Task E takes longer than 2 weeks to complete
Table key below
-The citical path is through tasks B,D,H and I. The critical path has float times of zero for each task.
-The minimum time to complete the project is 26 weeks.
-The minimum time to complete the project is 26 weeks.
-To determine the number of supervisors to tasks, connect the tasks along the critical path and enter the values into one row of a gantt chart (below). This is line one and will requrie one supoervisor. Enter the remaining tasks into line 2 making sure they don't affect the critical path. Make sure also that they don't break the rules of the gantt chart, that is they cannot start until all predceding tasks have been completed. In this example task E cannot fit into the chart on the second line so a third supervisor is needed for it in line 3. Sometimes it is possible to move non critical tasks, creating spaces between them.
